Course Title:
British Spy Operations in the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries
Course Description:
Surveys the activities of the British Intelligence Services from before the outbreak of WWII until the present day. Examines the success and failures of all forms of British intelligence, including code breaking during WWII, Soviet penetration of British government organizations, and current activities of the intelligence services including operations in Northern Ireland. Examines Soviet recruitment of agents in Cambridge and alleged political “destabilizing” activities as highlighted in the recently banned British book _Spycatcher,_ by former agent Peter Wright. Field trips include Churchill’s Cabinet War Rooms in London.
