Course Title:
Urban Architecture: Composition and the City
Course Description:
Offers students the opportunity to study Boston’s buildings, many of which have been constructed in a number of periods and styles throughout its long and illustrious history. The buildings not only vary widely in age but in style as well-from the austere colonial architecture of Old North Church to the splendid brownstones of Back Bay to the postmodern office buildings of Post Office Square. Introduces students to the architectural terms used to discuss these buildings. Allows them to view some classic examples of the various periods and styles and to work on the fundamentals of architectural sketching and design, as well as to attempt to craft a design that functions as an elegant solution to a specified set of problems.
