Course Title:
Qualitative Research Methods
Course Description:
Introduces a number of qualitative research paradigms and methods for the social sciences. Provides students with an opportunity to gain an understanding of common approaches such as ethnography, grounded theory, and phenomenology. Discusses qualitative data collection methods including interviewing, focus groups, field observation, and archival research, as well as different analytic techniques such as content analysis, interpretative analysis, and narrative analysis. Covers strengths and weaknesses of various qualitative approaches, issues of validity and reliability, ethical issues, and a range of practical matters in conducting qualitative research.
