Course Title:
Teaching Spanish
Course Description:
Intended for students who want to improve their understanding of how people learn a second/foreign language and develop an approach to language teaching that is theoretically sound. Research findings from selected areas of second-language acquisition (that is, the role of the first language, the nature of learners’ interlanguage, learning strategies, individual differences, and the role of the environment) serve as a point of departure to discuss implications for language teaching. Explores current pedagogical proposals (task-based approach, whole-language approach, or processing instruction approach) and provides hands-on experience in the design of teaching materials that are consistent with the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning.
