Course Title:
Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist Practicum 1
Course Description:
Introduces students to the role of the clinical specialist in the first of a two-course sequence. Seeks to integrate principles of leadership, collaboration, consultation, and management into the role development for advanced practice. Three spheres of influence-patient/family, nursing, and organization/system-serve as the organizing framework for the clinical experience. Students are assigned a clinical nurse specialist preceptor who oversees the experiential portion of the course. Requires students to complete a minimum of twenty hours per week of precepted clinical experience, attend a weekly seminar, and conduct a needs assessment, inclusive of the development of population profiles and the conduct of clinical inquiries. Seeks to enable the successful student to define a clinical nursing problem in the health-care setting and to develop an appropriate intervention.
