Course Title:
Writing about Law
Course Description:
Provides students with the opportunity to write weekly and biweekly assignments aimed at conveying aspects of law and legal culture to an intelligent and interested but not necessarily professional audience. Students write op-ed pieces, profiles of public figures, and case-related news reports that may be, in appropriate cases, submitted for publication. Class meetings include editing and feedback of colleagues’ work, discussion of a variety of legal journalism forms, and possible visits from writers and commentators working in the field. A final assignment provides an opportunity for students to meet the writing requirement. While choice of subject is usually up to the student, a commitment to attendance and assignment deadlines is essential.
