Muslims, Jews, and Christians in the Middle East

Examines the social and cultural dimensions of the ways in which Islam has related to Christianity and Judaism. Explores the human relationships, mutual consensus, and divisive conflict that have existed among these regional neighbors, both now and historically. Focuses principally on Islam and sees the other two in juxtaposition to it. Examines the social and cultural interactions of these Middle East religions from an historical point of view, stressing the extensive and intertwined relationships all three have experienced through the premodern period. Examines the twentieth-century phenomenon of fundamentalism, itself a product of American modernization, but today a term associated primarily with the Muslim world.
