Course Title:
Theory and Practice of Nursing Research
Course Description:
Addresses the development of nursing science. Emphasizes the relationship between theory building and research for the discipline and advanced nursing practice. Requires students to complete an in-depth analysis of the research process and apply this analysis in the evaluation of published research reports related to health care. Topics include evidence-based practice, knowledge development and the scientific method, ethics, literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative approaches to research, research designs, sampling, data collection methods, reliability and validity of data-gathering procedures, computer utilization and data processing, statistical applications, analysis of findings, and utilization of research results. Aims course activities at assisting students to develop skills as an active participant of a clinically based research project and as a leader in the utilization of research to improve nursing practice.
