Course Title:
Primary Care and Psychiatric Integration Practicum-Children
Course Description:
Offers clinical learning experience in the coordination, delivery, and evaluation of primary care emphasizing the psychiatric and mental health needs of the adolescent client and family. Students access, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic illnesses and developmental problems encountered in adolescence. Building on a foundation of health assessment, health promotion, and disease prevention, focuses on integrating primary and mental health care for this population and applying theory to assessment and treatment planning strategies. Emphasizes interdisciplinary role responsibility and the legal, ethical, political, and professional boundaries to practicum, circumscribed by the various roles of the primary care nurse practitioner and the psychiatric mental health nurse specialist. Includes policies affecting practice, standards within primary care and psychiatric mental health nursing, access, and quality and outcome of care.
