Course Title:
Psychiatric Nursing Practicum 2
Course Description:
Continues NUR G480. Seeks to provide a clinical learning experience with individuals, groups, and families in psychiatric community settings. Focuses on both direct care (treatment modalities, crisis and emergency intervention, and therapeutic approaches pertinent to selected psychiatric disorders from the DSM IV-R) and indirect care strategies. Uses case material from students‘ required continuing practice in assigned agency as the basis for discussion in weekly didactic seminar with faculty. Students are required to plan and implement a community program based on the needs assessment conducted in NUR G480. Emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration and a community mental health perspective for populations at risk for mental disorders. Requires students to practice in the clinical setting approximately twenty hours per week.
