Course Title:
Psychiatric Nursing Practicum 1
Course Description:
Seeks to provide a clinical learning experience with adults or children/adolescents in psychiatric settings. Focuses on broad issues of community health systems and factors that influence services to diverse populations. Emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to care planning. Investigates techniques of observation, communication, and interviewing in the assessment of individuals. Surveys basic psychopathology differential diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and treatment planning within various psychodynamic formulations in a weekly didactic seminar. Students are expected to develop a caseload of selected clients, define a needs assessment project in the community, and practice approximately twenty hours per week in a negotiated clinical placement with an agency preceptor.
