Children’s Law
Course Description:
Explores the legal position and legal needs of U.S. children. Considers parental control over and responsibility for children and the constitutional dimensions of “family privacy.” Covers the broad topic of child abuse and neglect, including mandated reporting, cultural issues in abuse and neglect, the foster care system, and termination of parental rights. Also considers issues particularly germane to older children, such as access to medical care without parental consent, rights in school, and emancipation.
