Course Title:
International Human Rights Law
Course Description:
Focuses on important themes and concerns in international human rights law. Provides a historical overview of the human rights movement and explores major theoretical and practical challenges to that movement posed by cultural relativism, state sovereignty, structural barriers to implementation, and globalization. Introduces students to the instruments comprising the International Bill of Rights (including civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights standards) as well as to other treaties addressing specific rights violations. Examines regional approaches to human rights or human dignity. There is no prerequisite for this course.
