State and Local Government
Course Description:
Offers an introduction to the workings of state and local governments and to the roles of law and of lawyers in shaping and controlling their operation. Covers the sources and scope of state and of local lawmaking authority, intergovernmental relationships, modes of citizen participation in and control over the governing process, and state and municipal fiscal structure and operations. Focuses both on the practical roles played by attorneys (employed inside or outside of government) in the governmental processes and on the place of decentralized governmental units within the vision of a democratic polity.
