Workforce Development
Course Description:
Retired August 31, 2007; replaced with ED G381 in the Graduate School of Education. Provides an overview of the field of workforce development beginning with secondary vocational education and going through incumbent worker training for adult workers. Examines the extent to which vocational education meets the needs of the new economy and then focuses on the nation’s community colleges, examining how they and other types of two-year postsecondary institutions have evolved and how they function. Explores innovations and trends in the technical education and training community colleges provide. Also covers the nation’s job training system, providing an overview of federal programs and their effectiveness and how they have evolved under different administrations. Finally, students examine how workforce development can create potential for career advancement for low-income workers.
