Explores the evolution of British drama from Shaw to Tom Stoppard, emphasizing the influence of Ibsen and later European dramatists; the Irish influence of Yeats, Synge, and O’Casey; the traumas of two world wars; and the steady growth in the variety and power of British dramatic productions.
