Course Description:
Retired August 31, 2007; replaced with ED G304 in the Graduate School of Education. Develops in students a working understanding of, and critical perspective on, the political dynamics of schools in the United States. Students probe such questions as has the quality of education deteriorated in the United States; how race and class affect school performance; are students developing the skills needed for the economy; how should we pay for education; and how can we make schools more accountable to the needs of the students and their community. Participants come to understand the policies and practices in contemporary education.
