American Film Survey
Course Description:
Surveys the history of American film from the silent era to the present. Considers the internal history of the film industry and film art, as well as the relationship between film considered as a site of cultural debate and social history. Films studied include _Birth of a Nation_, _The Gold Rush_, _The Gold Diggers of 1933_, _Citizen Kane_, _Mildred Pierce_, _On the Waterfront_, _The Graduate_, and others.
