Data Communications and Networks
Course Description:
Retired August 31, 2005; replaced by ETC 4531 in the School of Professional and Continuing Studies. Introduces and justifies the need for communications networks. Describes the various standards and procedures currently available for transporting data over distance. Presents rates, formats, modulation techniques, error detection/recovery, and standards. Also introduces the concept of local area networks and their role in the data communications arena. The seven-layer ISO model is used as the basis for both major segments of this course. Includes a variety of different protocols within the course material.
