Course Description:
Retired August 31, 2005. Reviews critical mechanical systems and concepts relative to the conduct of cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Covers blood pumps, oxygenators, filters, and materials from the standpoint of operating principles and management and blood conservation and sterile technique. Examines special applications of extracorporeal circuits, such as aortic surgery, transplantation, and a variety of noncardiac applications. Requires a once-weekly OR observation.
