tExplores the process of social, economic, and cultural change in Latin America. Focusing on the present, traces class formation, agrarian structures, ethnic identity, ceremonial organization, gender roles, and political conflict since the colonial era in a range of Latin America countries. Stresses the relationship between communities and national, political, and economic systems. Focus over the years alternates between Central America and Mexico and South America.
