Course Description:
Deals with the precolonial period and the problems of the partition of Africa. Also focuses on the classical colonial period and the transformations of colonial policy after World War II, with particular emphasis on the ambiguity of decolonization and those features of the colonial system that seem to have become a part of the East African social and political environment.
